First off, I wanted to offer my sincere apology for missing my post last month at the beginning of September. Unfortunately, it coincided with a number of personal events that kept me a smidge busy to the point it slipped my mind to make the September post. This included my birthday, as well as my family and I being busy engaging in the joys of international travel as we made our way to The Land of Ice & Fire (Iceland).

If you can remember all the way back at the beginning of August, my goals included:

  • Post a minimum of one blog post each week

    • I continue to fight this battle, because I do truly enjoy getting to write about mental health topics. My continued struggles with this goal reinforced to me the importance of trying to build and incorporate a more consistent routine/framework for my personal and professional life, to help me show up in a more meaningful way.

  • Engage in a minimum of thirty minutes of physical activity at least three times a week

    • I did fairy decent on this one, but want to continue working on it. What reinforced this urge to be more physically active was noticing how much better I felt while my family and I were on vacation in Iceland, where we were walking/hiking on a regular basis. While the physical activity was arduous at times, I have to admit that I did enjoy how I felt at the end of each day.

  • Meditate for at least ten minutes each day, and make an effort to not "check out"

    • I did well at this one overall. What helped the most was I made the intention to dedicate the beginning of my mornings to being present and mindful of myself in the present moment while I made tea for my family and coffee for myself. I definitely appreciated how good it felt to think about how the simple act of making cups of tea was a way for me to show my love and care for my wife and daughter in a small way.

  • Convert my old group and individual therapy handouts into digital versions I can easily share with others.

    • Won't even lie or attempt to sugar coat it. I made absolutely zero progress on this goal.

Because of the difficulties I encountered with attempting to complete these goals the last two months, my plan for October is to keep the same goals, but instead make a more concerted effort to make them actually happen. Or at the very least make a considerable dent on each one. Please feel free to check in at the end of the month (on my family's favorite holiday, Halloween) to see how it went!

Also, if you are interested in starting individual therapy with me, please feel free to reach out to me via my contact page to see if we are a good therapeutic match for one another!
